NO. 6 & 7 IN A SERIES OF INTRODUCTIONS-INTRODUCING FRIENDS & HEROES OF ACUHO-I
“To teach in a manner that respects and cares for the souls of our students is essential if we are to provide the necessary conditions where learning can most deeply and intimately begin.” ~bell hooks
It’s almost time for #ACUHOI so today you win 2 new friends & heroes in this post! Do you aspire to move from the practitioner side of Residential Education and Housing to a full-time faculty position? Both of these student affairs professionals made this leap successfully. We can all learn so much from their stories, experiences and advice.
I’m so honored to introduce Dr. Tony Cawthon, Clemson University, College of Education, Chair of Leadership, Counselor Education, and Human and Organizational Development and Professor in Student Affairs!! Tony is fascinating, charming, and inspiring. Frankly, I love him for so many reasons and I admire him most for his endless committment to Student Affairs, to students and to ACUHO-I. Always engaged, learning and growing it’s a very cool adventure with Tony on board. If he’s presenting get there early and grab a chair- you will walk away with tons of creative ideas to implement and ideas to ponder.

“The academy is not paradise. But learning is a place where paradise can be created. The classroom with all its limitations remains a location of possibility.” ~bell hooks, 1994
Please say hello to our 2011 ACUHO-I Scholar in Residence, Dr. Maureen E. Wilson, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Higher Education and Student Affairs, Bowling Green State University. As the Scholar in Residence, Maureen will present her thoughts and lead a discussion on the book, Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses, by Aron and Roksa. Come to NOLA ready to listen, engage, & share your thoughts on what the Chronicle of Higher Education has called, “A damning indictment of the American higher-education system.” Grab the book for the plane or read an excerpt. Controversy is so much more exciting when we have an opinion. Maureen is scary smart and so approachable and authentic. Even in her pic you can see the positive energy and spirit you will feel in her presence. I hope you take this opportunity to bask in her wisdom and exchange ideas about the future.
